I've got no resolutions, my only hope is that by the end of this new year I'll be a step ahead of where I am now. I love a fresh start and this is such a nice way to begin.
Enjoy some inspiring illustrators:
Also, in love with this guy (Marc Boutavant) and he can also be found in this book (Play Pen) which is on sale now at amazon.com. There are some other great illustrators in there too (Oyvind Torseter, Elena Odriozola and Sara Fanelli were some of my favorites) . Happy First Day of the Year!
I haven't had much time for extracurricular crafting this week, but boy have I felt like being in front of the oven with the cold weather coming on. I've been enjoying cooking for me and only me. I cut this recipe in half and felt no worries over whether anybody else would like it or not. I liked it. Just to be sure, I made it for lunch 2 days in a row.
This recipe called for mascarpone cheese, which I found to be rather bland so I added some feta on top for a little extra flavor. It was good, real good - though I'd be interested in coming up with an alternative to mascarpone. I whipped up some chocolate crepes with the leftovers. For the filling, I basically tossed in the remaining mascarpone, a bit of light cream, sugar, vanilla, whipped cream and melted espresso dark chocolate. On top I drizzled some whipped cream and chocolate. It was goood. Crepe-loving sister enjoyed it too.
Here's the recipe for the Roast Asparagus Crepes si le gusta:
It didn't take me long to figure out that this is the best seat in the house. I'm so happy to be here just in time to witness Autumn. Oh and think of the Winter snowstorms and how about those thunderstorms in Spring.
I'll share it with you! So take a seat and think for a while...clear your head...or at least breathe.
Now I'm off to start my first official day of work in my new studio...feeling so thankful.
Silly Pippi, it's been a long time since I've read this book. Her odd manner got me laughing more often than Micah, though he soon would join because laughter is contagious. My favorite part:
Background: Pippi takes Tommy and Annika on a picnic. Pippi has just tried to fly off a tall rock and has landed with a thud on the ground.
"Pippi got up and brushed off her knees. 'I forgot to flap.' she said joyfully, 'and I guess i had too many pancakes in my stomach.'
At that moment the children noticed that Mr. Nilson (the pet monkey) had disappeared. He had evidently gone off on a little expedition of his own. They remembered that they had last seen him contentedly chewing the picnic basket to pieces, but during Pippi's flying experiment they had forgotten him. And now he was gone.
Pippi was so angry that she threw her shoe into a big deep pool of water. 'You should never take monkeys with you anywhere,' she said. 'He should have been left at home to pick fleas off the horse. That would have served him right,' she continued, wading out into the pool to get her shoe. The water reached up to her waist.
'I might as well take advantage of this and wash my hair,' said Pippi and ducked her head under the water and kept it there so long that the water began to bubble.
'There now, I've saved a visit to the hairdresser,' she said contentedly when at last she came up for air."
Well, our trip to the lake did not save us a trip to the hairdresser, that's for sure. Only Pippi. I just love that girl.
My boy thinks he can't fold. I bet a lot of you have a little one (or big one) who whines and claims they can't do it. I admit that it might be overwhelming for the little guy...t-shirts folded this way, pants folded that way, etc. But really I'm not asking for perfection - just an honest effort. Well last night this simple solution occurred to me, which brought on loads of laughter and an empty laundry basket:
Simon Says Fold! Each of you grab a similar article of clothing (ex- each hold a short sleeve shirt). Then give orders in Simon Says fashion, the whole while being a mirror so your child can follow you visually. My guy loves the karate chop fold method (simply karate chop wherever a fold is needed). I think it's a sneaky way to teach your child to fold and I just wanted to share it with you : ) If you have more than one child, I'll bet your kids will argue over who's turn it is to help mommy fold! (well maybe?)
This is officially the first bag I ever made, a diaper bag. I love the log cabin design, but the construction is soooo primitive. I thought it was funny when I ran across it this morning, I totally forgot about it! Look at these details:
I won't dare show you the inside, all the edges are raw!!!
Here are the rules:
1. If you get tagged, write a post with links to 5 blogs that make you think.
2. Link to this post so that people can easily find the exact origin of the meme.
3. Optional: Proudly display the 'Thinking Blogger Award' with a link to the post that you wrote.
Here we go in no particular order:
1. I am going to have to tag Beebee Mod back. I know I'm probably not supposed to do that, but afterall she was my inspiration to start blogging. I had a blog that just sat...and sat...and served as additional Car Litter Bag info for my customers. Jen (Beebee Mod) was one of the first people who took notice of it and made me realize that someone out there is reading and might actually enjoy a post here or there. Aww, thanks girl! I love her spunky personality that she shares more and more with each post. She also inspires me as a self-employed-stay-at-home mother.
2. Vanessa from A Fanciful Twist. This girl is a blast and her posts are packed with good thinking and eye candy!
3. Lindsay from Run Lucas Run. She's got a way with words! Go take a read and you'll see what I'm talking about.
4. Amber from Polka Dot Daisies. Makes me strive to be a better mommy and housekeeper! And she's a big sweetheart!
5. YOU. I know that's cheating again. But really, I wouldn't be here sharing my life and thoughts and creations if you guys didn't pop in to visit. period. period. period. (((Hug))) I really love to visit you back, so leave a comment so I can visit your blog too!!
This must have been one of the sweetest moments of my motherhood. Getting this held-delivered message from my little guy. Through all the tough times when you fear you aren't doing the right thing, moments like these shine through to give you reassurance that you are guiding him just fine.
I've been feeling quiet around here lately. Micah's kindergarten teacher died, Ms. Moore. It was very unexpected and we are really missing her. Micah is doing ok, as time goes on he is realizing the permanence of the situation and more emotions are coming out. He has a new teacher and thankfully her son had Ms. Moore last year so she is familiar with her curriculum. Ms. Moore had around 30 years of teaching experience in which she accumulated incredible activities, songs, games, and insight. She was a wise teacher and always a comfort to talk to.
A family friend also passed this weekend, Mr. Warrender. He had PSP which is a disease similar to Lou Gehrig's Disease. I'm feeling sadness for his wonderful family, but also for my Dad who has lost his good friend. My Dad took Mr. Warrender to physical therapy and when his condition worsened he faithfully visited him in the hospital. Mr. Warrender was such an inspiring man with incredible kindness, strength and determination.
So things have been slow and quiet around here. I also had a flooded basement last week, which meant a flooded sewing room. Thankfully it was a slow leak of water that was managed with 2 wet/dry shop vacs, 2 dehumidifiers, and 2 fans running ALL day and ALL night for four days. The wet/dry vacs needed to be emptied about every 15-20 minutes, yes ALL day and ALL night. I am enjoying a quiet sewing area now. I hope to get back in to full gear this week and I finally have some new things to add to my shop later today (wrist pouches).
